Default Ben Roethlisberger: Expect lots of no-huddle from Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger: Expect lots of no-huddle from Steelers

NFL.com
Published: May 8, 2012

The Pittsburgh Steelers said they wanted to run the ball more often when they parted with offensive coordinator Bruce Arians this offseason, but Ben Roethlisberger hasn't noticed too much of a change under Todd Haley, the Pro Bowl quarterback told NFL Network's Rich Eisen.

"I get a little confused at times because so much has been made about us, quote-unquote, throwing the ball too much, or going back to Steeler football and running the ball more," Roethlisberger said on Rich Eisen's podcast, which will air Thursday on NFL Network at 1:30 p.m. ET.

"In these meetings I've had with Coach Haley, he's all about the no-huddle and using our wide-receiver weapons and throwing the ball and stuff like that," Roethlisberger said.

The quarterback made headlines this offseason after he said he was upset the team didn't renew Arians' contract. Arians now is the offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts.

"People made such a big deal about us being so upset and hissy fits," Roethlisberger said. "Nothing like that happened. You hate to see anybody that's your family leave. So that was the tough part."

Boy i hope so...Always drove me crazy at the lack of no huddles we ran....BR7 is at his best when we run it!

Oh boy, here we go again. Every year, "we are gonna use lots of no-huddles ...blah blah blah..."
We can only hope that Haley does so.

as long as it's not lots of no huddle with wide receiver screens for 3 yard losses

I really hope we don't see Johnson standing around the backfield trying to block on 90% of the plays. that is a waste of a roster spot, a starting one at that!

How long has Ben wanted to run the no-huddle since airhead got in '07? It feels like every season was the year we would see more of it, and instead, we'd see less of it every week. Haley KNOWS the type of weapons he has and quite frankly, he's going to turn Ben into a beast. We're looking to destroy teams.

Nice...i like the no-huddles. But PLEASE stop running the snap-count clock down to 1 or 0. I hate that and we do it ALL the time. It defeats the purpose.
Watch some film of Brady and he'll cut it loose w/10 seconds remaining, 14 seconds, 7 seconds...you never are really sure when the ball will be snapped...inducing that element of "surprise".

I am in major agreement here.

Same here. That has been one of my biggest complaints the last 2 seasons. And maybe a BIG reason why defense can tee off on Ben because of being SO predicable on snapping the ball. This is the reason why I have question Ben's smarts or intelligence of reading defenses. Maybe he needs the full 15 seconds at line of scrimmage. Don't know. But hopefully they will mix up the snaps. Just like Brady does.

Not so much "more" but "more at the right time." I would imagine that goes for "passing" too!

Good.

In the past it's been beyond frustrating to watch the O sputter for long stretches, only to break out the no-huddle and instantly succeed... and then to abandon the no-huddle until they're in desperate need of a big drive again (which may be games later).

In a related story, I will not be missing Bruce Arians this year.
