Fair enough since we lost one of our longterm leaders smack dab in the middle of our defense with Farrior. If Farrior would of returned, I think we would of been deserving atleast a 2nd or 3rd ranking but we'll be out to prove we're #1 if Lawrence Timmons can catch on and have a phenomenal season.

Meh. These "rankings" are meaningless and have no real basis in what will actually transpire on the football field in the fall. These are basically opinions and nothing more. I don't put much stock in them one way or another, but I guess it's fair enough.

I agree with it. On paper it looks right to me.

I will say this, I wouldn't trade the Steelers unit for any other unit. (as a whole)

It's hard to argue against that top 3.

To have any shot at #2 (I'll concede #1 to SF), the following has to occur:

Harrison & Woodley need to stay healthy. Timmons needs to regain the form that he had in 2010. And Foote...well...he played a lot last season, but he's nothing spectacular. Let's just hope that Sly can make the jump to starter ASAP.

A healthy Woodley and Harrison along with a better year by Timmons would easily put us in the running for the top spot. Bowman and Willis on the inside and Aldon Smith 14 sacks for Frisco is hard to beat but a healthy season by our guys makes for a better battle tested and reliable group. Aldon Smith is also strictly a pass rush specialist and is not counted on for pass coverage or run support.

Not that impressed with Houston. Connor Barwin had 11.5 sacks but no other got to double digits.

KC is similar with only one big guy Tamba Hali with double digit sacks (12) and stable guys around him. But Woodley and Harrison with double digit sacks would outweigh that. Throw is Sean Spence say in situational blitz plays and our LBs could have a big year.

hard to argue that SF's linebackers are #1 right now. Don't know if I'd rank KC over Texans tho, tho Hali is no joke.

We would be #2 if the team was healthy last year.

i would take Patrick Willis over any of our ILB's, as far as Tamba Hali I like him and he is a beast but a healthy James Harrison has a all around better game. Harrison is better in pass coverage and just as lethal rushing he passer.

Totally disagree. San Francisco is #1 until our D steps up big again then it will be close. But the Chiefs!!!??? There is NO WAY IN HELL anybody will ever convince me that Tamba Hali (pretty damn good) along with Justin Houston, Jovan Belcher, and Derrick Johnson are better then Harrison (top 5 OLB to ever play), Woodley, and Timmons. Again, Tamba is pretty good, but I wouldn't take all 3 of their other LB's for Harrison or Woodley. Plus Foote isn't bad he's just not top notch. As for the Texans, they HAD a good LB crew with Cushing, Ryans, and Mario, but 2 of those guys are gone now. Barwin and Reed played well but I don't see how Cushing along with Mario Williams replacement and Damico Ryans replacement could be better then Timmons, Harrison, Foote, and Woodley. If it's being based strictly off of last years performance then the list is pretty accurate but that's only due to our injuries last year, our top 2 LB's only played about 2 or 3 regular season games together and they were both missing at times, plus our ILB moved to OLB for a few games too. The stats don't tell the whole tale and being that this is for the upcoming season, I would take Timmons, Woodley, Foote, and Harrison along with all their playoff win's, winning seasons, top defenses, and SB's over whoever had the best stats last year while we were plagued.

All that said, I still think San Fran is #1 and will be until our D plays like 2008 again.
