I wasn't alive during the 1970's. Ok I was born in 1979. Lets jusy say I don't remember that season to well. So I didn't get to see Lambert or Ham play. But Ham did have more INT's, sacks and fumble recoveries then Lambert. Does that make Ham better? I don't know. Lets just say they were two of the best ever period.

I didn't think kept track of sacks until 1980...that's why Deacon Jones isn't the All-Time Sack leader.

Your right the NFL officially started keeping track of sacks in 1980. But I think teams unofficially kept track of sacks back in the day.

According to Steelers records.

Jack Ham is 15th alltime on the Steelers sack list with 25.5.
Jack Lambert is 18th with 23.5

You're right, Ham was the smarter LB, but he wasn't aggressive as Lambert was either. Ham was more of a quiet type guy.

I agree. People overlook him because of Lambert was more vocal and had a mean streak, plus Lambert was also a damn good LB in his own right. At the same time, Ham was no choir boy out there and I recall him putting a few guys on their heads (literally) and butts. I'm not taking anything away from Lambert, but if I'm starting up a LB core I would take Ham over Lambert, not by much.

Just my opinion.

"Greatest" and not "Best" is what the poll is looking for and to me than means who embodies and projects the Steeler 'image' best.

The Mean Joe "Hey Kid" Coke commercial and the SI "A Rose By Any Other Name" cover with Lambert's toothless mug biting a thorny rose stand out in the commercial world. (And more recently SI's "Back On Top" with Hines on his knees with that big happy mug after we trounced the Eagles and the Pats)

I don't have them yet but how do you pick who is the greatest of two children?

I have my pick 50.00001% to Jack and 49.99999% to Joe.
