Turns out that Time Warner and Charter want to put NFL network on their high level sports tiers and charge extra for it. NFL Said no way and pulled the channel.

I am pissed cause I was getting NFL Network in HD on Comcast.

I would go with DirecTV but their High Def sucks...it isn't even high def. They chop off the resolution. a 1080i channel should be 1920x1080 resolution but DirecTV chops channels down to 1280x1080. It sucks....they call it HD Lite on message boards...
I have Charter as well and I heard the same thing about the cable packages. they actually had the option to move NFL network to the lower tier as requested but Charter said no, NFL netwrok had no choice. They should be a in a lower tier rather than a crappy sports tier that gives you channels you have no desire to watch anyways, especially now that they will be televising games. What I thought was typical of Charter was how they just took it off in mid-football season (right as the Steelers started making thier playoff run) and didnt inform thier customers and expected noone to notice.

I cant stand how cable companies are regulated as a "utility" and unless you opt for dish, you pretty much have to take what you are given.

P.S... Did I mention I hate Charter???

I found the emails for the VP of Programming and the VP of PR for Charter and wrote them an email about it. Here is my email and her response. I have responded back to her as well.

Thank you for your e-mail. We would like to carry NFL Network again on our Sports Tier where football fans like you can receive the programming without requiring those of our customers who are not interested in football programming to pay additional costs. As an alternative, we would even be willing to consider carrying NFL Network on another one of our digital packages. Unfortunately, the NFL Network will not allow us to carry it in that manner. We have had discussions with the NFL Network about carrying on our systems, but it is too early in those discussions to predict whether we will end up carrying the network. We will consider your comments (as we do with all customer comments) when we are making decisions about our channel lineups in the future. Thank you again for your e-mail.

To Whom it may concern:

I am writing you in regards to the absence of the NFL Network from the channel lineup at Charter Communications.

I am a Charter subscriber by lack of other Cable choices in my area. I moved and previously had Comcast. I now am infinitely disappointed about the direction Charter is headed with respect to the decision not to carry the NFL Network (or would not move it to the main digital tier). Every other major cable & satellite provider in the US has this channel as part of their basic digital package. Comcast even carries it in High Definition.

Anita LaMont was quoted in an article atwww.bizjournals.comsaying that Charter was disappointed that subscriber ship to the sports tier was low. I can only surmise this was due to fact of that tier having substandard content next to the NFL Network. The other choices in that channel grouping were frequent soccer, women's volleyball and surfing broadcasts. With these being the majority of the choices I would assume that many customers didn't think that one extra quality channel was worth $9.99/month for the "Sports Tier". I certainly don't. It is also rather puzzling that other channels like the Golf Channel exist in your expanded Basic range. While golf is popular, it is far from being equal to the NFL in terms of being a pro spectator sport!

The first thought I would have about keeping loyal customers like me would be to move the NFL Network to a channel in the 15-99 range so all could enjoy. Surely this would add substantial value to the "Big Value Package" and widen your profits due to increased subscribers. It is also infinitely more popular then some of the channels currently available in that range.

With the choice of DirecTV ($41.99/month), DISH ($37.99/month) and Charter ($54.99/month) as my TV entertainment providers in my area it will be hard to keep my patience with Charter being the lone provider without NFL Network. It is especially discouraging as the NFL Network plans on live NFL broadcasts this year. With the utmost sincerity, please give me the choice of the NFL Network again!

Sincerely,

Rob xxxxx

Good letter Hammer. Wish I could get ahold of someone at Time Warner.

I will not go without NFL Network after having it the last couple years. I know I can get Dish Network for the same price as Time Warner....I just have to do it.

Haha....here is my response back to her...it looks like she didn't even read my letter that closely. Let's see if I can put it in clearer terms for her!

_____________

Thank you very much for your reply to my letter but one comment you make gives me pause. You stated: ?We would like to carry NFL Network again on our Sports Tier where football fans like you can receive the programming without requiring those of our customers who are not interested in football programming to pay additional costs.?

Additional costs? My Comcast bill was less expensive and they even carried the NFL Network in HD. Using this logic?why then, am I paying for these channels which I am not interested in?

49 Toon Disney Expanded Basic
50 Fit TV Expanded Basic
52 Home and Garden Expanded Basic
59 Outdoor Life Expanded Basic
60 Sci-Fi Expanded Basic
61 Women's Ent. Expanded Basic
62 TV Guide Expanded Basic
63 Soap Net Expanded Basic
65 Golf Channel Expanded Basic
66 Speed Channel Expanded Basic
67 Oxygen Expanded Basic
69 TV Land Expanded Basic
70 EWTN Expanded Basic
71 Travel Channel Expanded Basic
73 G4 Expanded Basic
74 Hallmark Channel Expanded Basic
75 Bravo - East Expanded Basic
76 Univision Expanded Basic
77 GSN (Game Show) Expanded Basic
78 BET Expanded Basic

The Golf Channel? Speed Network?

No offense but either of these channels would be a better fit for your niche based ?Sports Tier? while the NFL Network would fit more with ESPN or other sports channels in your regular expanded range. The NFL is the most popular pro sport in the country. I wish you had a package that let me pick the ten channels that I actually watch.

Excuse my frustration but I am forced to use your cable service as there are no other providers in my area. I understand if the NFL Network is playing hardball but look at the facts and popularity of this sport over what you show on the Speed Channel. I am not talking about some smalltime, niche channel.

The fact is that Charter and some areas of Time Warner are the only two cable providers of any worth not offering this channel.

I don?t want to switch to DirecTV but I will if I have to.

Thanks for your time,

Rob

I wish I had control but my parents and grandparents both want to stick with cable. And my girlfriend lives in an apartment complex that won't allow her to get satelite so I am stuck with Time Warner.

When people do switch to Dish from Time Warner, then T-W will pick it up like Comcast had it.But by then it will be to late...because not only will people have NFL Network they will also have the option for NFL Sunday Ticket (which when/if I ever get a dish I am getting Sunday Ticket).
