Default If they're going to cut Dixon, they're going to cut Jerrod

I guess I should have seen it coming. With Batch back another year they feel confident with a healthy 3 starting the season, Jerrod didn't even make the practice squad

I think that they made a huge mistake in keeping Batch/Leftwitch over Jerrod Johnson. Based on what I saw in the games that he was in there's no comparison between him and Dixon. They could have let a potential great one slip through their fingers.

There is a reason he wasn't kept or placed on the practice squad. He sucks. It's the same reason Dixon and Troy Smith were let go. They sucked. A QB has to be able to throw in the NFL. You need to be able to read defenses in the NFL.

Jerrod did better as a QB than Adams did as a tackle.

The Steelers let him go, and no other team claimed him off waivers. Guess that says a lot about his "potential."

Reminds me of how people said we would regret losing Thaddeus Gibson for years to come.

The Steelers know how to judge their talent. They obviously know that Johnson did not cut the mustard as a QB. Lefty and Batch have years and years of starting experience in the league. Whether some of you want to believe that is valuable or not, that is the fact of the matter. Ask all the experts and they say that the Steelers have great backups at the QB position. I think Johnson was just another backup that would not have cut the mustard in the heat of the big games. I still think they should have gone after someone like Hoyer off the waiver wire. At least he played for a legitimate power house and is not quite as geriatric or immobile as Batch and Lefty. But between the three who were in camp I think the Steelers made the right decision.

I'd say he did quite well, and those of you who say he can't throw haven't taken the time to learn about the kid. He set the Big 12 record for 242 passes straight without an interception. He was an All-Big-12 selection, and if not for an injury his Senior year, he'd be a first-round pick.

Here's his statistics with us compared to Batch and Lefty:

14-21 239 yards and two touchdowns + game-winning drive.

Byron: 8-13 for 119 yards and two touchdowns
Batch: 18-24 for 187 yards and a touchdown

By those statistics, it should be Batch and Johnson, with Lefty the odd-man-out.

He can pass. He's far better than Dixon will ever be, and unfortunately, he never had a chance.

He could have thrown four touchdowns and probably still be cut. Best thing he can do is sit by the phone, and wait for Batch or Leftwhich to break something.

So, yeah.

I brought statistics to the game, and Jerrod Johnson outperformed Batch in the passing game by throwing LESS passes, and gaining MORE yards. Can't really bring Lefty in to this, because he passed it a lot less, but Johnson definitely outperformed Batch this preseason. Doesn't matter WHO he was playing against, as both Batch and Johnson we're both up against scrubs.

Still, he didn't have a chance of beating out veterans like Byron and Charlie. If something happens to either one of those two, Johnson will be back (unless he's already somewhere else),
