Lets hope the trend continues.
you have a very strange and misguided opinion. what do you base it upon? historically ben has been one of the best in the league. this isnt opinion... this is FACT.

On third downs for his career, Roethlisberger has a 61.6% completion rate and a 90.9 passer rating. Dating back to 2004, his rookie season, 47% of his third down passes have resulted in either first downs or touchdowns. That ranks him third overall when stacked against quarterbacks that have attempted 500 or more third down passes dating back to 2004. The two ahead of him are Manning (50%) and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (49%).

using same 500 PA criteria, ben is third in passing yardage on 3rd down behind brees and eli manning.

Sorry, I didn't mean Ben, i meant the Steelers in general. How many times can you recall a 3rd and 8 with a bubble screen for 5, or a run directly into the center of an impenetrable line for 1. Far too many. Lets let Ben make the decision to make the 1st. That's what is different, and that is the trend I like to see continue.

The Patriots could have used Ben on 3rd down on sunday against Steelers West.

that's a very good point. Seems to me that 1st downs would be a good chance to get Miller in the game more.

As for how BR does on third downs, he just about gives me a heart attack each 3rd down, it can be a real joy to watch him play!

There's nothing wrong with Third Down. It's Third and Longs we want to avoid.

Unfortunately, you're very right on this point. They can't keep relying on Ben to bail them out on third down. They need to get the ground game churning on first and second down and stay ahead of the chains.
