Default Not a Good Day in Camp

Not a good day

LATROBE, Pa. ? Coach Bill Cowher certainly has seen some things he liked during practices so far at this training camp. It's just that none of those good things happened today.

Did he like anything he saw from the team?

"Not really," said Cowher. "We kind of fought through it. You'd think we had a practice last night. We've been up here about a week, and it's time we raised our standards and started holding everybody accountable from this day forward. We can't keep making the same mistakes. We have to pick it up a notch."

There have been other instances during Cowher's tenure of sluggish practices the day following a night practice, and that form held true.

During the 11-on-11 period, Cowher was especially unhappy with the way the defense was coming off the ball. Practice then closed with two repetitions of the one-minute drill, in which the offense get a specific amount of time to move the ball into scoring position, and each repetition ended in four plays with no first downs.

During the eight offensive plays, Ben Roethlisberger overthrew two receivers, Quincy Morgan and Sean Morey each dropped a pass and the offensive line allowed a sack on fourth down.

"The biggest thing is you have to fight through it," said Cowher. "The thing about this business is you have to put those things behind you, to come back, whether it's the next play or the next day. That's the mark of a dependable football player, because you're going to have days like that.

"I'm not concerned about Sean. The thing about our football team is we cannot make the repetitive mistakes we've been making."

INJURY UPDATE: Cowher said Deshea Townsend tweaked a groin, and he'll be day-to-day.

By the way, Townsend's groin injury is considered "minor".

At least they are practicing - I recall some of the worst camps have been when it rains frequently and the practice fields' conditions required repeated indoor practice.

Sluggish performnces can be fixed - season ending injuries cannot (ask Atlanta and Cleveland)

Appreciate the update

No problem Dan.

As for the weather. We just got a ton of rain poured on the area over the last 45 mins to an hour and I believe more rain is heading our way. They will have those conditions tomorrow.

I have a strong feeling Cowher will be working them over tomorrow after his voiced displeasure over camp today.

Cool update. I didn't expect a camp free days of mistakes anyways.
