I saw this earlier and wondered why we didnt release him before the season. I see him being a really good TE in the future

We couldn't cut Ike and put Saunders as the CB? Like he could do worse.
Jets would pick him right up, they need a shut down corner, lol Pete: There are certain times that hit the cap differently. I read soemthing in the preseaon but can't find it. Or there is some union BS thing there about suspensions. I would assume it was strategic. |

I can't name one thing Pope does exceptionally well, but for whatever reason he's Haley's boy...
Steelers release Weslye Saunders in strange move By Charlie Wilmoth on Oct 12 ![]() Surprisingly, the Steelers have released tight end Weslye Saunders. In a strange move, the Steelers have released tight end Weslye Saunders. Saunders had just finished serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy (it was for using adderall, he said), and he was on a roster exemption. The Steelers needed to clear space for him on the roster, and it was widely expected that they would cut fellow tight end Leonard Pope, who is older than Saunders and who has played very little recently. Saunders' release comes out of nowhere, as Chris Adamski indicates: Weslye Saunders was asked Mon if he might be the 1 who'd get cut-He & everyone else laughed. The very idea was a joke to him & us 3 reporters This might not be a season-altering move, but it's a very strange one. Saunders was signed as an undrafted free agent last year, but he appeared to have upside. He would seem to be a much better use of a roster spot than Pope. Saunders has a history of off-field issues -- in addition to the drug violation, he was kicked off the University of South Carolina football team for violating team rules. There may be something going on here that we're not yet aware of. The Steelers can't place Saunders on the practice squad. This move would appear to be good news for 2012 seventh-round pick and former Oregon tight end David Paulson, who the Steelers might prefer to Saunders. http://pittsburgh.sbnation.com/2012/...elers-released

They're not, the only coach who doesn't have the "Chicken Little" syndrome is Haley. Doesn't James Farrior still live "down the road"? Also has he officially retired, might the Steelers look for some leadership on defense, or is the next question to look th the RB position????? I don't agree with the move, but then again who am i?

Because he is a vested veteran, Pope would have to be paid the minimum of $840,000 even if he were released.
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...unders-657301/ No home playoff games to add to the bottom line this year - it's all about the Benjamins |
