Default Recapping the Steelers 27-12 victory over the Redskins

Recapping the Steelers 27-12 victory over the Redskins (read more)

Quote:
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Washington Redskins at Heinz Field today, marking the first time this season that they were able to put together back to back wins. It is also the first time that they have moved over .500 on the year after trading losses and wins for the first 6 weeks. They now stand at 4-3, one game behind the idle Baltimore Ravens at 5-2 in the race for the AFC North title.

The Steelers jumped out to an early 10-point lead and never really let the Redskins get back into the game. The defense has given up fourth quarter leads four times this season in seven games, and the team went on to lose three of them.

No such thing happened in the fourth quarter in this gameóa not insignificant fact heading to New York next week to take on the 6-2 defending Super Bowl champion Giants. They did so simply by playing better defense, allowing just 6 points in the second half. The Steelers added a touchdown in the second half to build on their 20-6 halftime lead for a final score of 27-12.

The Redskins never got closer than 4 points after the first score, a 4th down pass to 3rd string tight end Leonard Pope. After a 48-yard Shaun Suisham field goal made it 10-0, the Redskins responded with a touchdown pass of their own on 4th down, but the extra point was blocked.

Roethlisberger responded on the next drive with a 7-yard strike to tight end Heath Miller. It was Millerís 6th touchdown of the season, one shy of his career best 7 in 2007. Suisham made it 20-6 before halftime with his 16 field goal of the year on 17 attempts.

Although the Redskins drove on the opening possession of the second half, they mustered only a field goal for their efforts, and Roethlisberger once again responded with a Redskins score with a Steelers score.

This time he found rookie fullback Will Johnon for the first touchdown of his career and Benís 3rd touchdown pass of the game, his 14th on the year. Third-string running back Jonathan Dwyer added 107 yard on 17 carries after running for 122 the week prior.

He is the first Steelers back since Willie Parker in 2008 to run for 100 yards in back to back games. He now has 299 yards for 5.2 yards per carry on the season.

That last sentence is totally amazing, no back to back 100 yard rushers since Willie Parker????

Unbelievable.

Pay close attention here: He is the first back to run BACK TO BACK 100 yard games. Not 100 yards!

At this point with Dwyer running very well if he can stay consistent and gets more chances to prove himself I look for him to be the starter.

In all reality I'm for getting rid of Mendy. Call me a hater or whatever he just isn't the guy for the Steelers and I firmly believe that.

Based on what, exactly? He still has not had the opportunity to show what he is capable of doing for a full game behind this new offensive line. His future is very much in the balance over what he is able to do in these next 9+ games. Redman and Dwyer are also free agents next year, and I doubt they keep all 3, plus Batch, Rainey, and Will Johnson.
