Pitt-fall
By
Tiger Rowan

My friends and family always joke that I can relate anything to the Steelers. If truth be told, they are right… because everything does indeed relate to the Steelers. Well, at least in my mind everything does.

For example, this past weekend, I watched the new James Bond film: “Skyfall”. Maybe it was just me, but I swear that it was a two & a half hour allegory about the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers. Allow me to explain further, but do not fret: obviously, I will not give away important plot points, nor will I spoil any of the surprises.

We open up with 007 walking down a hallway, shrouded in darkness. A few minutes & few round-house kicks later, our beloved secret agent is deemed unfit for field work (by the pencil-pushing non-agents). One of the bureaucrats actually said something along the lines of, “You are too old, too slow, & done.” Holy guacamole!!!... those are almost the exact words that Warren Sapp used to describe the Steelers at the beginning of this season.

Throughout the next two hours, we see James Bond have moments of pure brilliance: defeating foes, saving the masses, and of course, getting the girl. But then, we also witness moments where his injured shoulders put him in peril; moments where his aching knees fail him; and moments where he flat-out gets the tar knocked out of him.

Essentially, 007 does a good job of proving his nay-sayers correct.

It appears as though you march to the beat of that same different drummer that I do.

I hope the team, and the defense in particular is taking this matchup without Ben as personal as a lot of Steeler Nation is. No one is giving us a chance in hell and we are "finished."

Me - I'm not gonna lie - I'm a little nervous, but wouldn't be shocked if Byron goes out and has a career game. He seems really grounded but has a sense of pride to him. If we win this game without him - watch out - we all might see a "Re-re-engergized Steeler team" that is holding down the fort until #7 returns.

Much like... I don't know... the 2010 team, when they did not have BB for the first four games. That team sacked up, and went 3-1, and was one play away from going 4-0. I foresee a similar type of "cohesion" happening... which will only make the team that much stronger.

I foresee The Colon & Pouncey taking the offense on their backs, and plowing holes. I foresee the defense gelling. I foresee (at most) 2 losses... and a play-off birth.

Then...

I was thinking about something similar this morning, about how if the Steelers can just win 3-4 more games & make the play-offs (even if they do not win the division, which I still think that they will do)... they will be getting back five awesome players for the play-offs: BB, AB, Droppy Mendenspin, DD, and Troy.

If they get in... WAIT... When they get in, and then they add those five Pro-Bowl-level players, watch out!!! No one will want to play them. My optimism is high.
