Saint Aloysius, Saint Mary's, Saint Jude's, Saint Peter's, Saint Nick's!
Halushkie, pizza frita, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, homemade sausage and peppers, clamsclamsclams, funnel cakes, BAKE BOOTHS, barbecue half chicken dinners, polish sausage sandwiches, and Yuengling Lager! Ziti with homemade meatballs forever! Homemade pierogies! Good lord, it's a great time to be alive in northeastern PA! My parish is St Judes, our picnic is this weekend. Here is a link to the album of pictures from last year, and some in-line shots... http://photobucket.com/albums/v210/M...picnic%202005/ A Father Streit Special, kielbasa w/peppers & onions: ![]() The potato pancake factory: ![]() Sausage & pepper w/sauce: ![]() My friend Sterling, "the halushki lady" tonight: ![]() Tom |

We won $50 playing instant bingo, but spent $60 doing it.
There was an incredibly intense earth shaking thunderstorm from about 5:30 til 6, but then it cleared out and was just hot and humid the rest of the night. What overwhelms me at these affairs is just how American and "small town" they are. It's 2005, but you could clip this event and transport it backwards to 1946, or 1922, or 1889, as far as how it feels to be there. It brings the word "community" to life. You can touch it. Can't wait in line for the potato pancakes? There's something for EVERYONE to eat! ![]() Tom |

Excellent photos Tom!
You are exactly right about the ye olde worlde feel to it - its good to see that communities still get together for stuff like this. All that food makes me hungry just looking at it - and i've only just finished lunch here! Thanks for sharing. NM |

You just had to go and mention Bingo, didn't ya? Guh! Our church picnic is next weekend and somehow I let my sister finagle me into working at Bingo! I dunno how it happened, but I don't like Bingo...(lol). Oh well, after I spend a few hours collecting quarters from lil 'ol blue hairs, I'll hit the beer tent. Thanks for sharing your pics. Yummo! Can't wait to get some of that great food next weekend myself.

What I love, all the people there are my friends. Sterling lives around the corner, my wife works for her husband and he was the driver at our wedding. The guy flipping pancakes, Bob, he is one killer mechanic who builds hotrods, he has a '48 Plymouth business coupe with a supercharged hemi engine. In the pictures at the album are John, Chris, Mary, Ivy, all folks who are part of our community; and some of the women are parents of our friends. I love that feeling I get there.
Mary Joan (Mrs Mosca) works either the doll booth or the plush animals every year, I usually do the bake booth but not this year. |

I know the feeling. The area where I live is exactly like that. Everyone knows everyone else...(lol).
I've worked so many different booths over the years, sold tickets, etc., but do not like working bingo! My sister said I told her I would do it. I don't remember her even asking me, but who knows. I have so much stuff going on all the time that I sometimes forget. But, I think she's full of crap, and just went ahead and signed me up to work w/her. Sisters are like that...(lol).
