I would say that he isn't the definition of a "BUST", but he's more of a dissapointment. He was taken in the first round to replace a Steeler Legend, and he just hasn't produced.
Many times, I see him laid out on his back because he just doesn't seem to be strong enough at the point of attack. He also doesn't seem to push the pocket very well. I've also found that teams have the most success running to his side. I would say that the team should keep him, but not at a top player money, just an average contract. I wouldn't even be opposed to brining in some younger blood who could produce on a similar level for less money. |

In order for him to be considered a bust, you would first have to have inflated expectations of him when he was drafted. Personally, I knew very little about Ziggy when the Steelers drafted him, and felt there were other people I would have liked to see them draft at that position in the first place. So for me he's not a "bust" because I wasn't expecting much from him to begin with other than for him to be a starter some day, which he is.

So by your criteria he is not a bust, but a serviceable starter and likely the best guy on the draft board at the time in a position of need for the Steelers. but..........Haters Hate.

I would just like someone to tell me what the expectations are for him? Meaning, what constitutes a bust as a DL in a 3-4 defense? I'm not being sarcastic I really want someone to tell me. I have seen at least 4 of these types of Ziggy bust threads and would like to know the criteria. I feel there are bloated expectations based on him replacing one of the best to ever play his position in Aaron Smith. But, statistically speaking, Smith was not a stat stuffer so what's the criteria?

We have to take into consideration that DL in this scheme don't make a lot of big splash plays. As long as he is stout at the point of attack and not getting mowed down then he's doing his job.
Remember Smith didn't make a lot splash plays, but he was solid and allowed the LB"s to do there job. |

He wasn't worth a #1 Round draft pick, that's for damn sure.

No. He's not a star but he's not a bust either.

He was the #32 pick taken. The last player in the 1st round and the Steelers needed D linemen and O linemen.
Other players taken in the 2nd round were: Ron Brace DT Eben Britton OT Andy Levitre OG Phil Loadholt OT Fili Moala DT Max Unger C Sebastian Vollmer OT Brian Robiske WR Pat White QB Everette Brown DE Connor Barwin DE Darius Butler CB Jarius Byrd CB All you whiners that like to hate on a guy for being drafted, when he was likely the best pick availabe are either just habitual complainers or have no idea of how the NFL draft works. Anybody can complain, but seemingly nobody can offer alternative solutions. Its a major problem in society and apparently here on this board.
