Thanks Mike. There were a few posters here back in that draft year that advocated guys like William Beatty, Phil Loadholt, James Laurinatis, Darius Butler, Fili Moala....BEFORE the draft.

Arguements can be made that Loadholt or Laurinatis would have been better picks, but the aging D line was an area of need and Hood seems to have addressed that as a 5 technique.

The hindsight haters will always hate.

bust? no, he's been pretty decent to good.

is he aaron smith? hell no. but if you expect him to be aaron smith, you will be disappointed.

just like expecting our next starting SS to be troy polamalu, or our next OLB to be harrison or porter. Smith was one of the best 3-4 DE's of all time, maybe the best in his prime, there won't be another like that for a long time.

I'm sure JJ Watt would like to have a word with Aaron Smith

Losing the Prime Smith is why our D isn't legendary anymore

We have a good D....borderline "Elite" when healthy

but when we had a Prime Smith in there it was at another level.....He let our OLBs eat on some QB because he commanded a Double Team.....which often he still drove back an collapsed the inside of the pocket

He pretty much was the reason we could get away with the Cushion-Era
