my sentiments exactly, this Steeler Defense was/is atleast as good as the one from the 70's, and even BETTER than the the one from the 90's.
Don't get me wrong, this Defense has also made it's share of mistakes over the years.

I just keep wondering, if this steel-dream-machine defensively can maintain this year, after year, after year.
Even moreso now, we so desperately need to BUILD a #1 Offense in anticipation of this.
...of coutrse, depending on drafts, good replacement starters,..., as our Defense "ages",..., who really knows right ?

Anyway, @tanda, thanks very much for this post. !
Absolutely no disrespect intended. And I know it is a matter of opinion. But to say this d is as good as the one from the 70's, is in my opinion just ludicrous.

Dick will be back. He's got the chance to feed into a draft hugely deep with D talent and with the opportunity to draft higher for a change. That will be enough to fire him up for another season, I'm sure.

I hope DL does what makes him happy. He has given us a lot during his time here. If he wanted to retire, I'm behind him. Let the guy get some rest. If he still has the fire, thee isn't a DC out there better.

Not trying to take anything away from him, but I wonder where the press coverage came from. He NEVER pressed and always ran zones. I think Lake has done a lot withe DBs and I wonder if the press coverage came from Tomlin. He was a good secondary coach, like I said press was never part of DLs defense.

Am I way off here?

I noticed the same thing. But irregardless he made the adjustments necessary to save the season. To take Ben's analogy, if the '12 Steelers were a sinking ship, it was the defense that was plugging holes and pumping water out of the boat.

This. I want LeBeau to do what is best for him, but I sure would hate to see him go. He truly is the best.
