Showed too much improvement this year to let go.
He plays one of the toughest positions and made many noticeable plays.
He needs to work more on his hands and situation awareness (he played way too soft in that zone coverage off the receiver on Cinci's last play prior to their winning FG).
But, we have so little depth at this position he's a keeper.

It's time to cut ties with more guys who have big salaries to sign the young guys. last year it was Hines, Smith, Farrior. This year, it should be Harrison, Hampton, and Troy.

Top tier CBs get $10-13 million.

$7-8 million is very reasonable.

I don't see him as overrated at all or the DB's as a group for that matter. Ike is very good, Keenan very good, Clark played extremely well this year and Allen/Troy were good as well. Keenan would probably get more money elsewhere but would be better served in Pitt. He should ask some of the others that have left lately only to bust. Ie...McFadden. Hope he stays for 7-8/yr.

I think we'll keep him. When he was out along with Ike, the remaining secondary backups showed that they aren't ready to go just yet. We have no choice but to make a fair try and retaining him.

If Keenan is not re-signed after his emergence this season, then everything about the 2012 Steelers can be deemed a complete failure. If there was one good thing to come from this season, it was the discovery that we finally have a legitimate #2 corner after years of developing and searching for one.

"Money of course talks the loudest so it will be interesting to see if Lewis will be willing to give a hometown discount to remain with the Steelers."

The hometown discount only applies if the player was originally from the Pittsburgh area and even then it's stupid.

Definitely not top dollar is right. Keenan had an excellent season and he was a major bright spot for us, but you can't award a huge contract based on one season. I do certainly hope we can reach an agreement, because I like him as a person and player a lot.

This season was perhaps the easiest schedule we have had as far as facing top notch QB and WR corps. ALL of our defensive backs are lacking. Troy is past his prime. Clark is playing well but he is not great in coverage and on downside of career. Some of you people act as if Lewis is some young guy with blazing speed and great coverage skills. The guy has average speed and he will be 27 before the start of next season. I don't see that he had a great year, but even if like many believe he did and finally came on, this is 3 seasons too late. Let someone else overpay for his questionable talent. I would rather go with Allen who I think is just okay, but at least he is younger and cheaper.
