Default Re: 49ers agree to trade Alex Smith to Chiefs

Some months back this pundit spat out this fact that the Chiefs have not drafted a QB who has STARTED for them since Todd Blackledge.

Smith makes [at least] four former San Fran QB's since 1990 (Montana, Bono, Grbac).

As far as availability/choices/moves go this is probably the best the Chiefs could do. Considering the Chiefs lack of offensive threats and their solid D, a 'game manager' like Smith may be a solid fit to maximize thier limited winning potential.

It will be interesting to see how Smith fares in Reid's system on an offense which will probably be on par with the 49ers during his first three years in the league.

geno smith....
3 raiders - this wouldn't be the craziest draft choice they've made. plus palmer is 33 years old.
6 browns - weeden was a desperation pick.. the guy will be 30 this year.
7 arizona - still needs a qb
8 buffalo - desperate for a franchise qb
9 jets - the sanchise chapter is ova
10 tenn - locker has shown nothing
18 cowboys - romo is 33, with nobody behind him

I think Geno goes to Zona.

Bruce Arians is thought of as being an excellent choice to develop young quarterbacks. And as several members of this forum will tell you... Arians is the bestest coach of all time because he got a meaningless award last year. I think the Chiefs will trust Arians to turn G. Smith into a franchise quarterback.
