Default Dannell Ellerbe to sign w/Miami too?

Adam Schefter reporting that Ellerbe is close to terms w/Miami. This was the guy that Baltimore fans were SURE they were going to keep while losing Kruger.
Looks like they're losing both of them.

It's not just a "slightly under $7 mil cap hit" that is Flacco this year, which is the common excuse for keeping everybody. The contract reaches into subsequent years, affecting all decisions.
How's that $120 million QB working out for ya so far?

It's just like when the Saints unloaded a dump truck of money for Drew Brees last offseason, which hindered the team's ability to sign other players, and the team struggled to a 7-9 record. And now because of Flacco's massive contract, many of the Ravens' free agents are leaving, and the Ravens could potentially struggle next year as a result.

I see no downside to that

Ellerbe is simply not worth $7m per year. Heck, the ILB position is not really worth that money no matter the player. The cap and/or Flacco's contract had nothing to do with this.

This was simply a matter of right player right price. Had the Ravens had tons of cap space, they wouldn't have matched this deal. Ravens were offering him money, around $5m per year, but just not stupid money.

So far, as in, 1 day into the new league year and -175 days since kickoff of the 2013 season?

Well, it MIGHT be a LITTLE early to say for sure, but I think Flacco has completely bankrupted this team for the next MILLION YEARS.

Seriously, let's at least wait for some semblance of a final roster before judging the contract. The FO is just going to have to do the best with what is left after grossly overpaying Flacco.

Unfortunately we had no choice but to sign Flacco, as evidenced by the Ellerbe and Kruger deals. If we didn't pay Flacco, SOMEONE would have. If we had Dilfer'd Flacco we would be taking as much flak today for letting the Chiefs snag Flacco as we did for signing him. Ah well, comes with the territory.
