Default The Authoritative Guide to Your 2013 Steelers

This is my take on the recent events in FA etc.:

Losing Harrison and Wallace will hurt the team the most. Worilds will surpass expectations next year- he will be groomed for ROLB specifically and has a build that is better suited to that position he just needs experience.

Not having Worilds at LOLB makes Woodley's questionable health a major issue. The Steelers need depth at OLB and ILB in a hurry.

Worilds makes it possible for the Steelers to draft a defensive position other than OLB in the 1st round. It is very possible that the Steelers will take a NT because it is essential to stopping the run in a 3-4. Ta'amu is too unreliable and McLendon will be overlooked even though he is a solid player because he is more of a 1 gap than 2 gap NT.

Wallace's departure hurts a lot. If I were an opposing DC I would use a lot of Cover 2 and bump the small Steelers' receivers on the line. Wallace is no longer there to stretch the field and I think things will really tighten up for Brown and Sanders.

Miller's health is going to be a major issue going forward. The Steelers will desperately need him to have a big year.

If Keenan Lewis leaves for another team Allen will take his place with no drop-off in talent. I actually consider that an upgrade. However, Ike isn't getting any younger and it might be a possibility the Steelers take a corner in one of the first 2 rounds.

Losing Mendenhall also hurts. Dwyer needs to be better conditioned and he will be able to carry the load. The later rounds of the draft are stocked with decent running backs.

I agree with everything you said, except that. I still have high hopes for DeMarcus and I think he can become our number two CB opposite Allen (or Nickle if Lewis comes back). I think that because DVD has such a high ceiling and such great potential, I don't know if we need to draft another CB at all. We have a lot of young and developmental guys in Victorian, Brown, King, etc. and our draft efforts might be better elsewhere.

I think I'm the only one with faith in DVD on here, though.

We better have a group of CBs 1-3 who can man up and cover

That cushion ball Defense crap won't work at all anymore in todays NFL thats built for the Fantasy Football League

DL and Tomlin are crazy if they think they can just trot william gay back out there and go back to playing cushion D....especially with our Pass Rush not being elite anymore

I just think CB is a possibility in the first 2 rounds. Johnathon Banks ran a really slow 40 time at the combine (4.62). I think that will hurt his stock and he will probably be there in the 2nd.

Also, Xavier Rhodes might be an option in the first. Big, physical corner from FSU would be a suitable replacement for Ike Taylor haha- Ike Taylor 2.0.

If Lewis leaves (and the Steelers usually offer contracts well in advance to upcoming FA they are determined to keep) then the Steelers are left with 33 year-old Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen for the future.

I agree DVD could be really good in the future- 6 1 corner who is young and ran a 4.28 at the combine with Lake coaching him up has a high ceiling.

I think the Steelers will draft BPA between ILB/NT/OLB in the 1st.

thank you for your input kind sir - i think you might have the first 3 picks right, with olb being in first or 2nd

i wouldn't be shocked at all to see a WR,, TE, or RB in rounds 3 or 4

the flip side to that is the offense needs to pull a Ravens and carry this team for once - i can't believe I said something positive about Bmore. I just puked a little in my mouth.

I agree though, and I think with a healthy O-line, finding a running game, and either Miller getting healthy or drafting another big target is going to put this offense where it is suppose to be - the top half of the league.

Yeah TE and RB need to be addressed in this draft as well. It really will come down to BPA I think.

This year defense will be drafted in the 1st round as DeCastro was drafted first last year.
