Default Visiting Pittsburgh from the UK

Any of you guys from UK on here been to Burgh? What was it like? Want to make a trip out there sometime for a game, as in a 4 day trip as teacher holidays make it difficult to go to the States for a long period.. What price are we looking at?

First off, I think it's AWESOME that the Steelers have so many fans in England, and it's even more awesome that some of you are on here at Steelers Fever.

I'm sure there'll be several members here that can help you out.

I always thought my bus was shorter because our school was small.

Heinz is amazing - went for a Cinci game in the snow back in ... 2009 I think!
The fans sitting around you will likely be hilarious. Nothing like a British football match!
Get there early...
And make sure you have a Primanti's.

the closest experience I can give you was my family hosting a woman (30 something at the time) from China who was part of a international education program - I can't remember what province she was from -

basically, she said (fantastic English - probably spoke "gooder" than most of us yinzers at the table) that the region in general reminded her of a mix of rural and industrial towns in her area, although - not anywhere near as filthy, and not littered with shanty towns - an unfortunate reputation and point of shame for the good, everyday Chinese citizen

anyways - if I could just suggest - think of some industrial like towns in your neck of the woods that have experienced a little modern revival, while maintaining that hard-working, blue collar grit mentality - if there's a place where you can walk up and just start talking to anyone and come away thinking you've known that person your whole life - that is the community of Western PA/Pittsburgh - throw in some hills and lots of greenery and you've got an idea of the area - you can either fill your time here with a lot of activities or if you're truly looking to just go to a game, and then have some quiet time - it's all there for you - it's one of the little "big" cities and it is quite diverse ethnically - you won't come away feeling overwhelmed in my opinion - very warm city, just beware that there is a good chance you might have a dreary, ugly weather trip - I hope you can make it - I think you'll come away wanting to visit again. The food in the city and region in general is to die for. You have to try a sandwich with french fries on it (Primantis is good) and you have to have some good wings, and maybe even some Syrian/Lebanese food if you're feeling adventurous. Oh yea, you've never had a salad until you've had one in Western PA - they are huge and go heavy on the meats, cheeses, and other things - you won't find much lettuce - which if you're a meat eater, that's a good thing!
