Would love the move only if we traded down and picked up an extra third or so . Guys a beast and will be a headache for teams.

I've said on here, numerous times, that I'd like to see a tall pass-catcher added to the roster. In the red-zone, the offense sputtered... and essentially, only Heath was catching TDs. Thus, I figure that a tall WR (Woods, Swope) or a TE (Eifert, Ertz, Escobar) would help with scoring TDs (instead of FGs). And, Escobar's strength is being able to catch the ball while covered... which makes him the perfect red-zone target.

I watched Escobar as a sophomore (when he had a decent QB: Ryan Lindley), and saw a player that I wanted on the Steelers. As a junior, his QB was "eh", and thus, Escobar looked less than stellar. BUT, because of his average junior season (not his fault), he has dropped down a round. Thus, Escobar has early-R2 talent, but will be acquired by a team in R3.

Oh... and, Eifert at 17 is a legitimate possibility.

I love the idea of a TE in round 1. It fills a short term hole; it provides for a double-TE look in the intermediate term; and it provides replacement for Miller for the long term. In addition, we have legitimate concerns regarding both of our starting OTs, and the TE flexibility could help with blocking. And it helps to alleviate our WR problems as well.

Finding the right TE in round 1 would be a masterful high-impact move!

As far as "too many holes in other places" - to my mind, losing Miller for a good hunk of the season is about the largest hole you'll ever see.

Yeah, but we know that hole that exists will be filled by a talented player already on the roster. We have the player that will fill the void at some point when healthy. At many other positions, there is literally nobody to fill that spot with the talent that already exists at the TE position. I just think the 1st-3rd round selections should be used on other positions first.

I can't imagine the Steelers not looking into Mike Shanahan(Pitt). The guy has size, decent speed and great hands not to mention he's right under their noses. He would be a steal in the 6th or 7th round and ready to learn the offense and get some playing time, if the guy can make Tino Sunseri look like a half way decent QB then just imagine

Mike Shanahan is most likely going to be an UDFA.

Miller's injury was serious. While I very much hope for a full and speedy recovery, these things are never predictable. Miller probably won't be himself until late in the season, and perhaps not at all this season. The beauty of the TE selection is that it provides value both short-term and long-term, whether Miller is available or not, and also helps to alleviate so many problem areas all at once. It could be an incredibly high-impact selection!

Two schools of thought:

1. Plug holes.
2. Build on your strength.

I prefer the latter. Ben is our strength regardless if the defense was #1 on paper. I say let's give him weapons. IMO it's our best chance of winning.

I could see that but the Steelers would be wise to take a look
