Steeler's Defensive Depth going into the Draft
Steelers Defensive Depth going into the Draft--------------
Not much here is there? Hood is in his last year and so may be Keisel. Could try McClendon here a bit too but several will need to be added probably late in the draft and through UDFA. Uncertainty about Hood could lead to a higher pick. Margus Hunt is considered the next JJ Watt. Not many prototypical 3-4 DEs in this draft early as well. Who they could take #1? Star Lotulalei if he fell to them by some miracle.
Steve McClendon -should play at DE more. Has the right size and height.
Alameda Ta'amu -must be a reason they are keeping him around.
Hebron Fangupo -should compete and challenge Ta'amu and McClendon.
Steelers must believe in Ta'amu and he very well could be the guy as I have seen McClendon consistantly moved off the line by double teams in the running game. Still if a great NT is there in the draft they could go that way. Jesse Willaims, Jonathan Hankins, John Jenkins and Brandon Williams are the top rated and one could be had 2nd round.
Sean Spence -will he ever return?

Not much behind Foote in terms of a blue chip player. I would say it is a sure thing draft pick but they may be able to get Michael Mauti and Vince Williams late 7th or as UDFAs if they don't go Arthur Brown or Khaseem Greene early.
It's Worilds chance. Which means they won't take a OLB in the first round unless his name is Dion Jordan and even he has weaknesses in his game. Why take such a risky pick number 1 when there are plenty of very good choices to develop from the 2nd on. This might be the only guarantee I can make on this draft that they will wait past the first but still it is a SURE THING DRAFT PICK later.
Damon Cromartie Smith
Highly likely a pick will come early. As early as #1 if it is Vaccarro. But Troy and Clark should still play at least two more years so not using a #1 when he will have to wait to play might be wise. Plenty of good 2nd and 3rd round safeties. SURE THING DRAFT PICK
Demarcus Van Dyke
They are quite stacked at this position which should dictate picking a CB late if at all. Xavier Rhodes could change that mindset if he is there at 17. Van Dyke and King are really fast guys I hope they can play, along with a guy like Victorian. Could all develop nicely under Carnell Lake.
So who very well might be there on Defense for the Steelers to realistically take in the first round.
Star Lotulelei would be a surprise DE/NT
Jarvis Jones OLB
Sheldon Richardson DE
Kenny Vaccaro S
Sylvester Williams DE
Desmond Trufant CB
after a trade down from 17 they could still get
Damontre Moore OLB
Jesse Willaims NT
Jonathan Hankins NT
Kevin Minter ILB
Margus Hunt DE
Arthur Brown LB
Matt Elam S
Make your own conclusions and enjoy the draft.

Re: Steeler's Defensive Depth going into the Draft
Nice job. Too bad no one is replying.
Very nicely illustrated list of team needs.
Because the Steelers seem high on Rhodes (and FSU players in general) I think he will be the pick. He isn't as quick as smaller corners but he has the size and straight line speed the Steelers look for in their corners who often play zone.
I would be happy with Jones IF the front office decides he has the intangibles. I wouldn't be happy with Vaccaro- I think he is an assignment football player who lacks the instinctiveness of the greats like Polamalu or Reed. Good player but not the elite game changer you would want in a 1st.
