Default Larry Foote is an asset

In the passing game:

As a veteran leader:

And a proven run-stopper throughout his career.

Larry Foote is probably one of our defenses most important players, and I literally watched in awe as he outperformed some of our younger linebackers and blitzed right by some of games best lineman to generate pressure on the QB, and on top of all that, he was proficient pass defender.

Probably one of the better signings of the offseason, imo.

I have no problem with bringing him back if nothing else the depth and leadership he will bring to this team.

I strongly disagree that Foote is an asset in pass coverage. Foote is not good in space. He is a veteran player with good awareness and I don't think anyone would argue that. I wonder how Farrior would have done if he had stayed last season. Probably about the same.

I do agree Foote was able to generate some good pressure last season. He times his blitzes well.

I agree on the leadership, run stopping, and the occasional blitz package, but I agree with lloyd that he isn't very good in coverage. Too old and slow defending the pass. We need a younger, faster, more athletic guy for passing downs. It's a damn shame that Spence's career might be over. I think he was the answer to at least that part, if not the whole package.

Pass coverage was never Foote's forte, and of late he's been adequate against the run, as long as the DL does it's job keeping him clean.

Foote a proven run stopper and good in pass coverage?

Foote has shown to be average, at best, against stopping the run. He gets pushed back by ball carriers and he also has the tendency to wait until the RB comes to him. He also takes poor angles

In pass coverage he is a bad. In 2008 he was statically the most burned LB in the NFL. He hasn't shown any improvement. There is a reason people call him Slow-of-Foote

Wait a second...

Foote isn't going to be EXCELLENT in pass-coverage, but the tape in the first article shows he's proved valuable in pass coverage on more than one occasion. He's a solid linebacker, and i'm glad we signed him.

Larry has two skill sets that you can not buy, beg or steal in pro football. Health and discipline. Everyone in the NFL has talent no matter who it is. Levels are just low and go to high depending on who. He had a great year last year too. Happy he is on board.

We seen what our Receiving crew looked like without a veteran leader in Hines Ward, an surely they'll become leaders on their own, it's just the initial leadership void that can kill a teams chances of being successful.

We're already without Harrison, and we'll be without several more defensive players in the coming years, and maybe even months, so i'm glad we have a leader in Larry Foote in Black & Gold.

And leadership.

I think that he learned a lot, by having his locker next to Farrior's locker for eight seasons.
