I believe he missed games at USC due to the injury.

Besides, none of those games were for the Steelers.

huh? none of the games any of these guys played in were with the steelers or any NFL team..

There is no guarantees in any draft with any players whether they were a star in college or not.

A guy could look like a can't miss prospect (Ryan Leaf anyone) and still turn out to be a big miss... And a guy could look like a bust or huge reach and turn out great. I remember Bruce Irvin was considered a big reach last year, but had 8 sacks and was helpful part in the Seahawks defense..

We wont know until who ever we draft at 17 gets on the field and our coaching staff coaches em up and lets em get after it.

There is no exact science or forumula to the draft if there was everyone would be great and there would be no busts but thats not the case.

But I can tell you I have plenty of faith in our front office, and a hell of a lot more in our FO than a team like the raiders to draft the guy (whether it be Jones Vaccaro Eifert or whoever) they feel will be fit the Steelers and help get us back to the playoffs.

Yeah, he did have a back injury at USC, which led to the initial diagnosis of spinal stenosis. So he went back home to Georgia, whose team doctors said "nope, you're clear, you can play football". And he dominated there. Then he went to the combine, where every prospect goes through rigorous medical examinations. He had no red flags from those inspections. And now he's been cleared by an independent neurologist and the team doctors of several teams he's met with during this process.

Pretty sure the USC diagnosis was the aberration.

I'm sure that there is a good explanation for why he is so slow too...

Slow sprint times are often a symptom of dormant spinal stenosis.

Playing speed =/= timed speed

As a pass rusher, you're not going to be running 40 yards downfield after a quarterback coming out of a sprinter's stance, either. It's all about your strength at the point of attack, and initial acceleration/burst. I think his 10 yard split time is a better measuring stick than his 40 yard dash.

If you don't think he's fast, just ask all the offensive tackles in the SEC he's destroyed. Ask Terrell Suggs what it's like to be slow.

I don't want Jones because I don't believe in Worilds. I do. I've probably been Worilds' biggest supporter on this site. Part of it is blatant homerism because he's a Hokie and I am too, but still I believe Worilds can get it done. The problem is if Worilds is as successful as I believe he will be, he won't be re-signed, because that will simply be impossible, and if he doesn't do that well then we have no pressure off the edge and will regret passing on an OLB.

Jarvis Jones has been a dominant pass-rushing OLB who, although he won't on this team, COULD come in and immediately play at a Pro-Bowl level. When you're as uncertain about your OLB situation as we are, you can't pass on that, especially when the other options are unproven project wideouts, tight ends who might even last into the second round, and offensive linemen who we've spent so many picks on recently already.
