Default Stats have ruined sports and fans

Americans can no longer enjoy sports unless they have the totality of the game measurable with statistics. Every athletic action must be a a cold calculated number. Flesh and blood? Pah!

Fantasy Football and ESPN have ruined sports. The later is a middle aged soap opera.

Anyone who only brings stats to the table undermines any authentic discussion and debate. Discussions should be about different interpretations. Hey if you believe that BB is the best QB ever to play the game, regardless of his placing in all statistical categories and can back that up with solid argument, what's wrong with that opinion? Only a real mathematician can make some sense of statistics but statistics in itself have no real value otherwise.

Peyton Manning might be a fantasy football god and his regular season statistics are impressive, but they explain little about his poor post season performances. Just because he is #1 in your online game doesn't mean hes the best QB.

And besides stats are gay.

So, by that logic Trent Dilfer and Eli are better QBs than Peyton?

There is literally nothing wrong with statistics. It's the misinterpretation of stats that causes problems. And some people, whether they referenced stats are not, would still be making the wrong conclusions because they don't know what the hell they're doing in the first place.

And you're just scratching the surface with that statement. I've never liked stats. I don't follow sports for stats. I watch sports to see athletes play. Stats are too easily skewed, misrepresented/presented. They don't lie, but they often deceive and NEVER tell the whole story.

I'm with the author 100%: Fuck stats.

If it weren't for stats, there'd be no Hall of Fame. Or less of one.
