Steelers Sign Whimper and Garvin
Posted 1 hour ago

aaThe Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran free agent offensive tackle Guy Whimper and undrafted rookie free agent linebacker Terence Garvin to contracts, the team announced today.

Whimper was originally drafted in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the New York Giants out of East Carolina. He played for the Giants from 2006-09 and was a member of their Super Bowl XLII Championship team. From 2010-12, Whimper played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Whimper has played in 67 career games with 22 starts in the regular season and has seen action in four career postseason contests.

Garvin went undrafted out of West Virginia University in 2013 and attended the Steelers’ rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis. He played in 47 career games at West Virginia, registering 235 tackles, 10.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He also intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, to go along with 11 passes defensed.

To make room on the roster, the team released rookie center Ivory Wade and rookie defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White.

I thought some guys here were high on Anthony Rashad White

This.. doubt he makes it to the game day roster, and with our oline injury history of late, might as well bring in every scruby linemen, cause there is a good chance gilbert rolls into them.

Maybe that is the idea. Play Whimper next to Gilbert so that he doesn't injure any starting linemen.

Kind of like how the 4th QB takes reps to keep the starter's arm fresh in camp. Whimper will take snaps next to Gilbert so that he doesn't injure DeCastro!!

Here's to another Jonathan Scott.

Let's hope they have told Max Starks that come June they have the money waiting for him to be back in black.

Why not Starks then? Vet min, experience and everyone seems to love him and vice versa. A dude named Whimper who apparently gives up sacks at an alarming clip according to the article seems off. We'll see I guess.

You're not far off with your comparison of Whimper to the human turnstile, Jon Scott.

Living in the metro NY-NJ area, I've seen Whimper play a bit. He's a career backup at best based on his tape.
