Default Obama's Egyptian legacy

Even the Egyptians have seen enough of his Muslim Brotherhood friends

Female Foreign Journalist Gang-Raped in Horrific Tahrir Square Attack

Egyptian media are reporting that a Dutch journalist was raped by several men in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Friday. According to a post from Sunday on the Facebook page of Dina Zakaria, an Egyptian journalist, "her condition is severe and she is hospitalized."

Obama's Epic Failure in Egypt: Millions march in Anti-Morsi, Anti-Obama Protests

Egypt's presidency defies threat of military coup

Egypt's presidency has indicated that it will not give in to the threat of a military coup, just hours after the Egyptian army gave Mohamed Morsi 48 hours to placate the millions who have taken to the streets calling for his departure.

The head of Egypt's armed forces, General Abdel Fattah Sisi, threatened direct military involvement in the political process "if the demands of the people are not realised", in a statement implying that Morsi should either step down or at least call early elections.

The presidency indicated that it viewed the statement as a coup d'etat, and implied that Morsi was safe as long as his administration still had US support.

Egypt: Army Gives Politicians 48 Hours

The Egyptian army has given politicians 48 hours to meet the demands of the people, saying any longer will lead to deep divisions.

The ministers of tourism, environment, communication and legal affairs handed in their letters of resignation together to Prime Minister Hisham Qandil.

Mass protests are taking place across Egypt calling for the Islamist president to resign. The protests are being held exactly a year since Mr Morsi came to power.

The Cairo headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood were stormed and ransacked by protesters overnight

Yeah - should have stuck with Mubarek - too bad Obama overrode the will of the people and forced Mubarek out

How Egypt’s Army Won

Jubilant chants echoed far beyond Tahrir Square when the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, Mohamed Morsi, was confirmed as Egypt’s first civilian president last week. Mr. Morsi’s election was lauded across the globe, and many are hailing today’s “transfer” of power as a triumph for democracy.

But there is little reason for celebration. In this latest grand spectacle manufactured by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, the generals symbolically respected the people’s choice while using the election to further entrench their unaccountable political autonomy.

In February 2011, most analysts assumed that Mr. Mubarak’s government had collapsed. They were wrong. The regime never changed. It was reconfigured. The underlying centralized structures of the system that the military council inherited from Mr. Mubarak persist, and the generals have sought to preserve them. The recent election was just the latest attempt to formalize the generals’ executive authority while winning public legitimacy.

But I suppose the Egyptian army is just another pawn of Obama
