Default Von Miller arrested on failure-to-appear warrant

The Denver Broncos have a new legal issue to deal with.

Arapahoe County (Colo.) undersheriff Dave Walcher told NFL.com and NFL Network that linebacker Von Miller was arrested Sunday on a failure-to-appear warrant. Miller quickly was released on $1,000 bond.

.
"We have been aware of the matter involving Von Miller's failure to appear in court for traffic violations," the Broncos said in a statement Wednesday. "It was reported to the league earlier this week and is being handled through the legal system."

Walcher said deputies made the arrest after receiving a call from the Centennial Gun Club, in the 6600 block of South Paris Street in Centennial, Colo., about someone who had a warrant. KMGH-TV in Denver reported that court records showed Miller was cited last October for careless driving, driving without a license and no proof of insurance.

Miller reportedly was scheduled for arraignment Dec. 31, and the arrested warrant was issued Jan. 2.

The talented pass rusher also is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport previously reported that Miller's appeal had been scheduled for mid-August, and The Denver Post's Mike Klis said the linebacker will miss Thursday's training-camp practice for a meeting regarding his appeal.

Miller has other problems

As Von Miller awaits word on a possible multi-game suspension from the NFL, another situation regarding the star Denver defender has come to light. According to Chris Vanderveen of 9news.com in Colorado, Miller has been named as a possible witness to the murders of five people at a bar in October 2012.

Dexter Lewis, 23, is accused of stabbing five people to death at Fero’s Bar and Grill, then lighting the inside of the building on fire. Miller’s name “appears along with dozens of other names in a court filing obtained by 9News.”

This is just the latest twist in what’s been a troubling offseason for Miller, the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year and a 2012 first-team All-Pro. Miller was arrested in August for missing a court date stemming from a traffic violation. That occurred as Miller was appealing a suspension for breaking the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Miller now could be called to the stand once Lewis’s case goes to trial. As Vanderveen points out, Miller is not believed to have had any involvement with the incident itself, beyond possibly being at the bar on the night in question.

Earlier on Monday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Miller would be suspended for “at least six games” to open the 2013 season, though the official cause of Miller’s impending punishment from the league has not yet been revealed. The NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported that a diluted urine sample could be the culprit, with several suspension options on the table.

How do you manage to stab five people to death without everyone running away?
