Default Bell Aggravates Knee Injury?

I guess there is a reason teams do not hit anymore in training camp like they did in the good old days

Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell, who was elevated to co-starter this week and was expected to see snaps with the first-team offense in the second preseason game Monday night at Washington, aggravated a left knee injury during practice this afternoon.

Bell was held out of the preseason opener against the Giants because of a bruised knee. During team drills today, a defender came up and laid a hit on Bell when the play was winding down. It appeared Bell thought it was merely a wrap-up period and not a live period because it did not look like he anticipated being hit so hard. I did not catch which player administered the hit.

Bell wore an ice wrap for the remainder of practice and afterward coach Mike Tomlin said the injury will be reevaluated.

And there is more

Bell was the second running back to go down with an injury Thursday. Isaac Redman was hit hard by Lawrence Timmons and laid on the ground for a few moments before being helped up by trainers. He also sat out the remainder of practice. Tomlin said Redman received a stinger.

If Bell and Redman cannot play at Washington, Jonathan Dwyer, Baron Batch and LaRod Stephens-Howling would get the bulk of the carries.

Mark Kaboly seems to think this is not serious

Le'Veon Bell is up and walking. Was left knee. Seems OK.

Redman is up. Looks ok

Sounds like Bell should not have been hit

Asked whether contact was permitted when Bell was hit, Tomlin said, “That was not a live period.”

Will continue to be optimistic until proven otherwise. Hopefully we get to see him take at least a few carries this week.

Everything we have heard about Bell from coaches and reporters has been great, let him rest a week or so without practice. No sense in him practicing every time and then not being able to play a single game for us this year.

What exactly is a "wrap-up" period.

Is this a period at the end of the play when someone thinks it is over or is it a point in practice where it is clearly made known it is no longer full contact for the rest of the plays.

It is easy to get hurt when some players are hitting at 100% while others are playing at 50%.

These psychos always want to rush everyone back. And for what? They grew up with this mentality that you play no matter what, which is just stupid. I know with the building concussion-based law suits coming up, they were forced to stop making concussed athletes still play, but the entire mentality of "if you're not playing you're not trying" mentality is of a troglodyte-level of thinking. Why rush Bell out to play when he is hurt? These coaches can be just retarded. This ain't brain surgery people.

Rest him and tone down practice no need for more injuries before season

Although I was excited to see him this Monday I would rather rest him till Wednesday next week and then get him in for game 3.

OK . I WAS FINE THAT WE WERE HITTING IN PRACTICE. But enough is enough. The physicality tone has been set. Time to tone it down. We have lost enough people to injury during this camp. Lighten up , or we wont have anyone left to suit up during the season.

There is safety in numbers - apparently a number of players ignored the live contact period being over for the day

Bell was pulling up as a running play ended during a noncontact drill when several defensive players took him to the ground.
